In a previous piece, I spoke to you about the elements of what makes a case study great. I also touched on why they are such a great marketing tool, but today I’d like to go a little more in-depth on that topic.

They are the unsung hero of your marketing efforts, and I’m going to prove that to you today by going over a few examples.

What Is A Case Study?

A case study is a detailed story outlining how your product or service helped one of your past clients. You can write these yourself, but it usually pays to hire a professional. These can be used as marketing tools to increase sales, so you want to make sure they’re done right.

Your customer will be asked a series of pointed questions during an interview process to learn how your product or service met their needs. Ideally, you’ve made them fall in love with your brand, and the interview will result in a 5-star review and some great quotes from the customer about your product or service.

Case studies, when done right, are extremely valuable. They can act as word of mouth advertising, can generate quotes you can use to bolster your web copy, and the interview itself can even be used in future marketing.

If used properly, case studies can boost conversion rates, increase sales, increase customer retention, increase the lifetime value of a customer, and much more.

You know what they are now, but you still might be skeptical on just how helpful they can be. Let’s go through some real world examples and you can decide for yourself.

Making A Case For Case Studies

  1. Hubspot: HubSpot is an industry leader in the content marketing space. They provide customers with digital and content marketing strategies, as well as a CRM platform to help customers organize their business. In this particular case, we’re going to cover their digital marketing efforts. Hubspot’s efforts and knowledge of Facebook Messenger marketing enabled The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to increase their audience size by 81% and increase their sales from Messenger leads by 12%. Who wouldn’t want to work with you after seeing you could produce numbers like that for your customer?
  2. Mailchimp: Mailchimp is a digital marketing company that specializes in email marketing. Their client Shapeways, a 3D printing company based out of New York, was able to use Mailchimp services to increase their click-through rates by 525%! Imagine the amount of customers you would have by showing prospects you could drive almost 600% more traffic to their business. Getting this type of information from clients is essential to your business growth!
  3. Neongoldfish: Neongoldfish is a digital marketing agency focused on bringing their clients results through SEO, content marketing, and PPC campaigns. One of their clients, Athena Career Academy, experienced great results from working with them. Neongoldfish wanted to increase Athena’s web traffic. They did so by consistently producing blog content for about 12 months. By doing so, neongoldfish was able to get their client a 600% increase in traffic to the blog, and 278% increase in traffic to Athena’s homepage. Wouldn’t you enlist the help of neongoldfish if you could get those kinds of results? That’s the power of an effective case study.

The Proof Is In The Pudding

I hope by going through some examples of real world results, you’re able to see what using case studies can do for your business. What do you think being able to advertise numbers like these on your website would do for your conversion rates?

Now, I know, most of our examples were from the digital marketing space. If that’s not your industry, that’s fine. The principle still applies. If you are providing a good product or service, and can get testimonials like these from clients, can you imagine what it would do to your sales?

If you were a digital marketer, how many more sales do you think you would win if you could show prospects that you’re getting current customers 500–600% more traffic, or almost doubling their audience size? I think you’d be getting so many new customers you’d have to expand.

That’s the power of using case studies. They give you deep insight into your customers’ experience, and provide you with in-depth stats and compelling quotes to land more customers. And best of all, these powerful weapons didn’t require any marketing money!
